Soon we will be able to get together in person more frequently as our new venue will be available to us in September. It will be wonderful to resume our proper meetings and I am very much looking forward to it.
As I was browsing the internet this morning, I found a terrific article about the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures here: Field Trip. It is a new article, written on July 11th of this year, complete with lots of photos and after reading it, I have put it on my bucket list of places I really wish to see. If you have a couple of minutes, please take some time and read the article. I, also stitch miniature pieces and it is so nice to see the miniature hobby promoted this nicely.
Today we worked on a Fairy Tale Theatre in our zoom session. I got the pictures for it and the instructions to make it from Open House Miniatures, the link to which may be found here.
The instructions were fairly easy to follow but I must say, cutting out the white parts in each of the four scenes was fiddly. We needed a very sharp knife and a steady hand but in the end we had some lovely little theatres. It was definitely worth it in the end though to be able to see the background scenery through each of the little scenes! I am going to put mine in the children's room of my Beachfront mansion. Above is the theatre made by Marg L showing the scene from Hansel and Gretel. In the background there are three other scenes, including Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and we think possibly the Seven Dwarfs. On the far right is a curtain that fits into the theatre and may be raised to show the scene. To see more picture of the theatre and other projects we have been working on this year, please visit our Meetings Gallery section using the tab above or this link. We are starting up our physical meetings again in September. If you would like to join our club or come to a meeting to see if you like it, please get in touch with us using the Contact Us tab above. Until next time, I hope all of you are having a nice summer.
Today, during our zoom session we made this delightful little Folding Dollhouse. It is based of of a child's toy called the McLoughlin Folding Dollhouse. The Files for this dollhouse were obtained from here: Open House Miniatures
When printing the files out onto cardstock for the rest of our club members, I noticed that the Maroon pieces that say Folding Dollhouse were blurry so I made up some with nice, clear lettering on them and sized them to fit the dollhouse. There is no box with the files so I searched for a good photo of the box and created the box to fit as well. The instructions found on the site were very clear and easy to follow. At the end of our zoom session, those of us who participated had this adorable dollhouse completed. This is the one I did today. I am going to use a pencil crayon and color the tops and edges of the walls where the white cardstock shows to give it a more finished look. It was a lot of fun creating this little project and I am looking forward to our next project in 2 weeks. While we have been locked down during Covid and until our in-person meetings start up, I have been busy adding more details to my Kitchen in a Cupboard project. I designed and printed out a "blackboard" sign to put onto a swinging sign on the left door. The sign will fold into the cupboard so that the doors may still be closed. On the bottom shelf is a little wicker basket I made during one of our meetings before the lockdown. I haven't yet decided what to put into it. My daughter painted a beautiful little design on the right-hand door and I made a little counter-top grill, printed out some placemats and made the sugar, flour, coffee and tea containers for the door. There are still many things I can add to this and will continue to do so until our next Show and Sale, coming up on May 7th, 2023 when we will display our cupboards for all to see.
