Yesterday, despite the fog several of us braved the weather to meet at our new meeting time. It was so nice to catch up after the Christmas festivities and all of us appreciated the extra time we had available to us now that we are meeting for 3 hours. Everything was more relaxed and we were able to view/accomplish many more things without feeling rushed. We packed a lot of fun and learning into that extra time. A great choice! To the right is a photo of Marg L's wonderful flower cart. She has spent a LOT of time working on it and creating various flowers. It is an amazing creation and definitely an inspiration to all of us. If you haven't been making many flowers, now is the time to start increasing your efforts as May will be here before we know it. Maybe this photo will also give you inspiration. More photos of the cart may be found on our Meetings Gallery page. We would like to welcome a new member to our group - Susan S braved the fog to meet us and will fit right in with our group very easily! |
Susan is a member of IGMA and has worked on miniatures for quite a while. Her favorite aspect of miniatures is pottery and wood turning, so she will bring new skills and ideas to our group. Already, we learned something from her when she showed us how she likes to keep her miniature tools and paintbrushes. She has two of these long fabric holders that roll up and tie to easily store and view all of her tools and paintbrushes. What a fabulous idea and so easy to pack away. The black unit with clear zippered pouches holds many items that don't fit properly into the roll up fabric holder. She had her tools laid out and packed away in seconds! It certainly gave me an idea for my tools and I mean to make the roll up ones. They are also available online for purchase and she will look them up for us. I took a brief look on Amazon and found some similar but not as long. The black one, I believe, is either a makeup case or a knitting/sewing accessories holder. Either would work. |
Pat J demonstrated her Stamping Up die cut machine to show us how easily she is able to cut out flowers or leaves for miniature. It was amazing! She was able to cut several layers of tissue paper or other papers all at once, to make many flower parts quickly. Certainly faster than punching individual ones by hand! For those who love making flowers, this would be a great tool. Marg L demonstrated her method for shading flowers when cut out of coffee filters and it was fun seeing how the colors of the markers bled down the paper and faded to create a much more realistic flower. Certainly something I will try more of! To view all of the photos relating to this meeting, please check out our Meetings Gallery. Our next in-person meeting will be on Thursday February 9th from 1pm - 4 pm so mark your calendars and cross your fingers that the weather cooperates better then! |
