Omega welcomes 2025!

Happy new year to all our friends, we hope 2025 will be a healthy, happy and rewarding year for each of you.

Omega had their first meeting of 2025 on Wednesday, January 8, sharing new finds and creations. Typically each meeting we have a freebie table set up where any member is welcome to bring supplies and miniature bits & bobs for other members to take and use. This girl got a great little wooden 40s style refrigerator that I can't wait to makeover and perhaps use in my Georgian Dollhouse. Several of the members, who bought mini pottery wheels (after our workshop in November), brought in some of their fantastic thrown pots, urns and vases. I am always in awe of the talent in our group.

SS conducted an exceptional workshop on the process for making brick walls. I think I speak for all, when I say, we were so impressed with how well produced and organized it was. Each of us was supplied with a kit, in a lovely lapis blue colored bag, that contained 2 disposable cups for water, 1 with a small sponge and soap in it, 2 little containers with spackle, another piece of sponge sheet, a small sheet of 2 mm thick cork sheeting (enough to make 48 x 1:12 scale bricks), 3 small "walls" of foam core and 10 little numbered pots each containing a required supply i.e. several colors of acrylic paint, Tacky glue, PVA glue, flocking, Mod Podge, shaved chalk pastel. SS demonstrated 2 methods of constructing a brick wall and also demonstrating a very interesting grided paper, called workshop paper. It helps facilitate accurate measurements and is easily applied to the back of things, like cork sheeting, with a spray adhesive. She also brought with her a metal glue jig and demonstrated how to use it to keep things square. It was a very interesting alternative to using Legos. We were so immersed the time just flew by.

The club is also trying to establish a protocol to Zoom our workshops so that members who may miss meetings are still able to enjoy them. More on that once we work out the bugs!

The club is going to be getting together, later this month at M's house, so that everyone who got a mini pottery wheel can get together and have a little clay play date! More on that in the next blog entry.

If our January meeting is any indication, 2025 promises to be an exciting and instructive year for all our members.

I'll close out this entry with a little reminder to mark your calendars for May 4 at the Fergus Sports Plex for our annual miniature show. This year we will be celebrating 40 years of the club and we are hoping to have the best show we've ever had! I'll have more specific information for you coming up in the next couple of weeks.
